The Plan

I’m going to spend a month cycling through Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. I plan to camp in the wild and take advantage of the many beautiful shelter sites in the Scandinavian countries. I want to keep my luggage as light as possible, but still have everything I need for a month-long trip.

Route

The rough route plan, starting and ending in Flensburg, goes through the following cities: Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Oslo, Larvik, Hirtshals, Esbjerg I plan to cycle about 100 km each day.

Section 1: Flensburg to Helsingborg (Sweden)

The detailed plan for the first section through Denmark looks like this:

Section 2: Helsingborg to Gothenburg (Sweden)

The journey through Sweden begins with the West Coast Cycle Route (Kattegattleden) to Gothenburg.

Section 3: Gothenburg to Oslo (Norway)

This section is still unclear at this point. I’ll likely cycle along the coast, as this section is said to be particularly beautiful.

Section 4: Oslo to Hirtshals (Denmark)

This section is still unclear at this point. It also depends on how much time I have left. The shorter route would be to take a ferry to Denmark via Larvik. The slightly longer route continues along the Norwegian coast and then goes from Christiansand to Hirtshals in Denmark.

Section 5: West Coast Cycle Route (Denmark)

If the wind permits, I’ll ride the final section to Flensburg along Denmark’s West Coast Cycle Route.

Bike

My bike is a Cube Nuroad C:62SL. With its carbon frame and fork, as well as electronic shifting, it’s only somewhat suitable for a tour like this. But I’m just hoping the carbon frame can handle all this luggage.

For comfort, I’m leaving the triathlon handlebar extensions on and switching to wide tubeless knobby tires. Bike
