Impressions
This morning, I finally set off again under bright sunshine. I rode along the coast through dunes and forests all the way to Halmstad, where I had breakfast at the harbor.
After Halmstad, the Kattlegattle route unfortunately ran mostly along various roads. It wasnāt the most scenic route, but it almost tempted me to really pick up the paceāif it hadnāt been for the headwind. I donāt think I need to mention that again in the future. Itās always windy.
I chose a shelter inland as my destination for the day. The coast is far too densely populated for wild camping. There arenāt any shelter sites there either, and I didnāt feel like staying at a campground.
As soon as you move away from the coast, the landscape immediately feels much more like Sweden. You ride through lots of forests, and I had to buy my dinner 20 km before reaching my destination, since there arenāt any more supermarkets after that.
That turned out to be a good decision, though, since I ran into other bike travelers again at the shelter site. Dinner among like-minded people is just more fun that way.
Iāve decided to take the ferry back to Denmark the day after tomorrow. For me, the shelter concept just works better than crossing the Swedish wilderness alone. More on that in the next few days.
